The borough of Stockton-on-Tees has become the first in the North of England to successfully achieve national recognition as a Dementia Friendly Community.
The recognition process was launched in September 2013 to publicly identify communities across the UK that are working to become more dementia friendly.
The recognition was achieved as a result of the Dementia Friendly Stockton project which is working with individuals and organisations from across the borough to ensure that people living with dementia can remain active and included members of their community.
The project is supporting local businesses and organisations to take a number of low cost, achievable steps that will make them more responsive to the needs of people living with dementia and their carers. Any organisations that become part of the project and commit to becoming more dementia friendly will be granted the right to display the national ‘Working to become more Dementia Friendly’ logo.
