I have been a Registered Mental Health Nurse since qualifying 2006. During my career I have worked in various locations across Tees Esk & Wear Valleys NHS Trust. I have gained a wealth of experience with both adult and elderly clients with varying mental health conditions. My initial dream of becoming a mental health nurse was so that I could care for patients who had dementia. I watched my Nana, Eve suffer with this awful disease and I wanted to help both patients and carers through their journey.
My last nursing post before joining Cleveland Alzheimer’s was as a Senior Liaison Nurse. One of the roles was to take undertake cognitive assessments for dementia diagnosis. Our team also supported and educated the medical wards with patients who were not well, often suffering with a delirium, and those who were difficult to manage due being distressed and pained in the hospital environment. Stigma and discrimination are also very close to my heart. I am very much looking forward to getting this project up and running, getting peoples voices heard and I wish it every success.
